Textbooks Jim Crow Laws

Textbooks:Books shall not be interchangeable between the white and colored schools, but shall continue to be used by the race first using them.

In 1935 a rule was made in North Carolina that did not allow blacks and whites to use the same book. For example if a white person used the book a black person could not use it after him, the same rule goes the other way. I think that the reason they did not allow this to happen is because maybe the whites were at a higher level and their books more educational, they would learn more from them. Also at thoes times whites had more rights to learn, many blacks didn't go to school.Maybe white people were so used to the fact that they are higher they didn't want blacks to be be as smart and get higher jobs.

What I think about this law is that it is very stupid. People at those times just treated them badly because of their skin color! No other reason. I think that they should of at least gave them a chance! I think that if I was a black student I wouldn't feel comfortable going to school where people don't let me use their books. So personally I think there was no reason to pass this rule.

Wedding Story

Hey guys, today I am going to talk about something a little different than what I usually talk about. Today I am going to talk about weddings! So my uncle got married about 2 years ago and I decided to write about hi wedding. So before they got married they knew each other for about 3 years then they got married in 2009. There was so many people at the wedding it was very surprising. There were about 600 people! I guess because they both are still in the army so they invited a lot people from there. Except their friends they invited many family members. Since we are not Christian we don’t have a priest so a “rabbi” married them. A rabbi is like a priest but for Jews. They got married in a public place in Tel Aviv (which is where they live). I think they picked that place since most of the people they invited lived there and also because it was a new place that the bride loved the look of. It wasn’t a special place or anything like that. It was out side under a “hupa” which is a white sheet of cloth attached to wood that sometimes people hold or they just stick it to the ground.

The bride wore a beautiful whit long dress and but the groom usually goes to change during the wedding. They usually start with a regular white shirt and jeans then they change into a black suit then into jeans and a shirt with a cool quote on it. In Israel they usually wear either black or white but they don’t have to its their choice. In this ceremony there are usually not only a bide and a groom involved there are flower girls that wear a pink puffy dress and the mother and father of the bride and the groom are usually involved too and they wear all black. There were a lot of decorations and mostly tall white flowers. There were some pretty pictures too. There was a lot of extremely load music playing I think it was mostly pop but the DJ just made sure that we can dance to them! The bride and the groom danced to a song that they both really liked. And then everyone got up and started to dance too. The food they served was regular things like meat salads etc... usually in Israel they don’t give out a special dish that is special for the country in weddings. The bride is brought to the groom by her parents and then the groom brakes a glass raped with aluminium. The groom’s father usually makes a speech at the end of the ceremony too. The ceremony its self lasted about 15 minutes and the party was about 2 hours until everyone went home.

When I asked the bride how it was she said it was wonderful and it went exactly how she wanted it to go. “I was very happy with how it went! It was very nice like I hoped it would be” she said. She also said that it  could of been better if they gave the food out quicker because by the time we started to eat everyone was starving! But when I asked the groom he said everything was just right and he doesn’t think it needed anything else to make it better. He liked the decorations and the way everything happened. Over all the wedding was perfect it looked amazing! Everything was just right and I enjoyed every minute.  When I get older I want my wedding to be pretty similar to this but I think in the future many things will change. The only thing that I think I would do differently on my wedding I will probably ask for different food if it’s possible J

It is very interestiong to see how different cultures from around the world can be the same and different. So our teacher gave us the same questions that are in the movie so we can write about us!

1.Usualy I don't have anything in my pockets but at school I have to cary my locker keys around. So my locker keys are in my pockets.

2. The last thing I had to drink was water when I ate lunch.

3. Things that make me happy are: my family, friends, sweets, and parties!

4. The last nice thing I did to someone was help my friend do her homework.

5. wow! there are so many things that scare me.....
Being in the dark on halloween, big bugs, hights, scary faces, and mostly wars.

6. The last movie I watched was "Little shop of Horrors" on halloween

7. The last song I sang was party rock anthem in drama.

8.The last thing I bought I think is lunch from the cafiteria.

Hello this post is going to be a little different. Today I'm going to tell you about my name! So basically Amit is a Hebrew name that you can mostly find in Israel. In Israel this name is used for both boys and girls but I think mostly girls have it. In my old school there were only girls named Amit which made it sound weird when I met a boy named Amit. I started to really like the name when I found out that my favourite comedian’s name is Amit! The name Amit means friend. I guess it fits me.....

My parents say that they picked the name because they both think its a nice name. I wasn't named after someone but my mom really liked what it meant and what it says about me. My mom first thought of calling me Aviv which means spring (I was born in the spring). I think I like Amit better though.

I really like my name! Because of what it means and what it sounds like. I can't think of any better name that I want for myself. Lastly I have been liking the names Ofek and Mika. Ofek is also a very popular name in Israel and Mika is just a name that I heard and I really like it. So this is the end if this post! But I will see you next time......

Many families and countries over the world have different traditions. They also have different ways of celebrating them. Some traditions may be very similar to others. For example on Christmas you light a Christmas tree and  in Hanukah  you light a menorah. Traditions aren’t only holidays they can be something special that you do every year with your family. For example my family goes on a skiing trip every year on Easter!

My tradition is having a big dinner every week on Friday evening. This tradition is called “kabalat shabat” which means welcoming  Saturday. We do this because we believe in god and we believe he created something new in the world every day of the week but only on Friday he rested. On this night the boys usually wear the yarmulke and the girls put a piece of cloth on their head. There is not really a special food for it each family makes something different. But before we start to eat we drink a tiny bit of wine and put bread in salt and it that too. For example my family usually makes really good fish.  But when we go to another family we eat something completely different. Jewish people have always been doing this tradition it’s not new at all. When I grow up I will probably continue with this tradition because I think it is nice to meet up with all the family once in a week! It’s a really fun tradition!

So even though we don’t live in Israel and there isn’t really the spirit of this day in Cyprus we still do it every week on Fridays. I hope my family will continue this tradition because when ever this day comes I feel happy to light the candles and make the table. I have so many funny memories from this day!

My favorite place

My favorite place is the Kuekenhof garden. A garden in Holland filled with beautiful flowers! Even before you go in you are filled with great smells. When you go in you feel like you are in a castle made of flowers! You  can see views that you have never seen before! It was the most amazing place I have ever seen in my life. I have never seen so much green in my life. It's amazing that everywhere you go there you smell different kinds of really nice smells! I really like nature and looking st different kinds of pretty flowers. Another thing that I like about that place is that it's really calm and fresh. Its the only place i have been where the plants are so green! This is why Kuekenhof is my favorite place to be!

Welcome!!!!

Hi everyone its Amit's social studies blog!!!!  I hope you like it :)
